How to choose the base value of Marine system oil

The alkali value of commercially sold Marine system oil is generally within the range of 5-10MgKOH /g. The selection is not complicated. The general basis is as follows:

      1. The cooling method of the engine piston

      Water-cooled type: select slightly lower TBN, partial lower limit (5mgKOH/g) oil.

      Oil-cooled type: because it needs to cool the piston at the same time, the number of heating cycles, it should choose higher TBN, partial upper limit (10mgKOH/g) oil.

      2, the nature of the fuel

      Low sulfur light oil: lower TBN oil is available.

      High sulfur heavy oil: because of its heavy acid pollution and high alkali value cylinder oil mixed, the system oil tends to be polluted, so it needs to use high TBN, clean and oxidation stability of the oil.
